Shake up coconut water

Coconut water is an ever-present drink in tropical countries, Latin America and Southeast Asia, where it is widely available via its fresh fruit form (green coconut), in a can, bottle or more recently, in aseptic packaging. It is fat-free, cholesterol-free, and low in calories – but high in nutrients and electrolytes. With excellent hydration benefits, coconut water is an increasing popular choice for a simple sport drink, especially for children who may not need all the adult-oriented ingredients found in some athletic beverages.

Adding whey protein such as HilmarTM 9420 WPI to coconut water provides a complete sport system for any age, delivering refreshment plus protein for muscle recovery.

Hilmar Ingredients offers whey proteins covering a range of functional and nutritional performance. We also offer technical, processing and formulation assistance. Our fully equipped pilot kitchen and research lab are staffed by experienced protein and application scientists eager to assist you in discovering the advantage of dairy in your food or beverage.

SPECIAL PRODUCTS

Whey Protein Isolates

Naturally derived from fresh, sweet whey, HilmarTM  Whey Protein Isolates are complete proteins – with all the amino acids in an optimum blend for human health. At 90% protein, WPIs deliver a maximum level of proteinwith almost no fat or carbohydrate. Couple those nutritional advantages with formulation advantages that include clarity, clean taste and selectable viscosity, there is almost no beverage that can’t be improved with WPI.

With thin-as-water viscosity, HilmarTM WPIs make light beverages, such as fortified waters and isotonics, possible. Protein shots can have protein concentrations of 18 or 19% without unpalatable thickening. Acid and heat stability allow Hilmar WPIs to withstand the rigors of juice fortification, pasteurization and heat processing.

Hilmar™ 9420 isdesigned specifically for clear, low pH applications where it reduces overall astringency.Hilmar™ 9400 has a clean flavor and is ideal in neutral or transparent beverages and soups. Hilmar™ 9410 instantized WPI has spoon-stirrabledispersibility for dry mix applications.

New Hilmar™ 9000 and instantized Hilmar™ 9010, with a neutral flavor and favorable mineral profile, are practical fortification choices for most liquid systems.

Hilmar WPIs are also excellent choices for improving the nutrition in foods like snack bars, frozen desserts, baked goods and soups or sauces.

Hilmar™ 8800 Alpha-Lactalbumin Enriched WPC

It’s the unique amino acid profile of alpha-lactalbumin, one of milk’s major whey proteins, that’s intriguing. Like all whey proteins, it has the full complement of essential amino acids needed for good health. But alpha-lactalbumin also has a higher concentration of two specific amino acids – tryptophan and cystine – thought to have influence on cognitive performance, sleep efficiency and mood support during stress. In addition, alpha-lactalbumin may play a role in enhancing the body’s ability to absorb minerals, such as zinc, immunomodulation and regulation of gut micro flora.

Hilmar™ 8800 alpha-lactalbumin enriched 80% WPC is designed to help manufacturers take advantage of alpha-lactalbumin’s health benefits along with the expected functional benefits of whey protein. Providing critical amino acids for energy and health, Hilmar™ 8800 also gives an extra pop of phospholipids for their essential roles in cellular structure and activity. With its heat and acid stability, high solubility and low glycemic load, Hilmar™ 8800 is ideal for sports or health products – RTD and dry mix beverages, food bars and supplements.

Whey Protein Hydrolysates

Whey proteins contain bioactive components that may positively affect cardiovascular health. In particular, these components can inhibit activity of the body’s angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), which causes blood vessels to constrict, and thereby help to reduce blood pressure. When produced under specific manufacturing conditions, including selected enzymes and other hydrolysis parameters, whey protein hydrolysates have been shown to be an especially good source of this ACE inhibition effect.

Hilmar Ingredients employs just such conditions when producing the Hilmar line of whey protein hydrolysates. All contain ACE inhibition activity as well as having individual advantages. From Hilmar™ 8350, which is “debittered” compared with competing WPHs, to the tabletting ability of Hilmar™ 8380, to the food/energy bar improvements ofHilmar™ 8370, these and the other Hilmar WPHs provide options for a wide range of heart-health and wellness applications.

High Purity Lactose

Hilmar™ Ingredients’ lactose provides a key source of carbohydrate that contributes to the overall value of a food or beverage.

For sport nutrition products, lactose’s low glycemic index (GI) is an advantage. Low GI products – those that produce only small fluctuations in blood sugar and insulin levels – help maintain consistent energy levels and help moderate spikes and dips in blood sugar. Low GI products also aid long-term health by reducing the risk of heart disease, diabetes and by helping to manage weight.
